Nigel Ash’s striking sculptures have their roots in history, architecture, geometry and the earth sciences. The inspiration for his work can be found in the landscape and built environment, as well as the ‘natural’ world.
The ideas for his sculptures evolve through drawing out the geometry of a form suggested by what is seen in the landscape or a ‘natural’ form.
Drawing enables him to crystallise an idea or suggests further ideas along the same lines. Numerous materials are used in my work including plastics, plaster, cement, wood, stone and occasionally metal.
Alex Peterson has been working as an artist since 1992 and is currently based in Cardiff.
